Xinhua News Agency, Suva, July 31 (Reporter Guo Xinhui) - Port Vila News: On the occasion of Vanuatu's 44th anniversary of national independence, Vanuatu's President Wulobaravu awarded the "National Medal" to 9 members of the Chinese medical team assisting Vanuatu on the 30th, in recognition of their outstanding contributions to improving the level of medical and health services in Vanuatu and consolidating medical and health cooperation between Vanuatu and China.
Wu Luobalawu said at the award ceremony that China has been sending medical teams to assist Vanuatu since the 1980s and has been supporting the development of Vanuatu's healthcare industry for decades. He expressed appreciation for the selfless dedication of Chinese medical personnel and sincere gratitude for the services provided by the medical team to the local people.
Chinese Ambassador to Vanuatu Li Minggang fully affirmed the positive achievements made by the medical team in the past year. He said that the medical team has conscientiously carried out diagnosis and treatment services at the Villa Central Hospital and visited grassroots communities and outer islands for consultations, effectively improving the medical and health level of Vanuatu and contributing to the friendship between China and Vanuatu.
The Beijing Municipal Health Commission began to undertake the task of dispatching medical teams to aid Vanuatu from 2022, and in September 2023, dispatched the second batch of medical teams consisting of 9 clinical backbone medical personnel from Beijing Tongren Hospital.
According to Cui Tongtong, the team leader, the medical team has diagnosed and treated 6657 patients, operated 103 sets, conducted 267 training and teaching activities, and taught nearly 20 technologies such as closed thoracic drainage, electronic bladder flexible mirror minimally invasive surgery, visual laryngeal mask anesthesia, and traditional Chinese medicine acupuncture and moxibustion since its arrival in September 2023.
